Camellia Coffee Roasters

Camellia Coffee Roasters is located in the R Street corridor in a beautiful brick building. It has a very large space for patrons to enjoy breakfast or grab a coffee to go. I had heard that both the coffee and the food here were standouts so I had to come and check it out for myself.

It was a cold winter day when I went to Camellia and the cafe was bustling. It’s a very popular location and business inside was brisk. The cafe was full of people, but it was still possible to find seating as the space is very large. My friend and I found a nice tall table across from the counter. To each side of the counter were standard tables that had customers hanging out, studying, and fueling up for the day.

We got in line and looked over the menu. In terms of food, there were their famous breakfast sandwiches as well as bagels and morning baked goods. Since we wanted something warm, we both opted for the sandwiches. I got a sausage and bacon and my friend went with a bacon and avocado. For coffee, I had heard really great things about the horchata cold brew so we both tried it.

Though the cafe was busy our food came out pretty quickly. The sandwiches came in a cute little paper bag and were piping hot. They were cut in half and when you opened them up there was this amazing cheese pull that I didn’t expect to see. Also, because it was such a cold day, you could see the steam coming out from the middle too. It was quite a site.

The sandwiches were divine I have to say. Everything about them was just about perfect. The bread was soft and unique. It perfectly held all the sandwich ingredients. I was really surprised at just how amazing it was. Sadly, it was gone in no time as I wasted no time in scarfing it down. I’m pretty sure I could have done another one, but I exercised some restraint.

The horchata coffee was as billed. It has a smooth and sweet taste that was well balanced. The horchata flavor rang through and really did make you keep coming back for more sips. I commented that I wish they had super sized cups because that’s what I’d certainly get this drink in if I could.

Camellia Cafe is an excellent coffee house and cafe. If you are near R Street, I would whole heartedly recommend a visit here. The food and coffee are both excellent and I can certainly see why people love it so much!
