The Melt
The Melt is a restaurant chain that has locations in California and Arizona. It’s not a huge chain, but one that has two locations in the greater Sacramento area. Both Melt locations are around universities - UC Davis and Sacramento State. It’s a restaurant that offers up better quality than a typical fast food place. Their main offerings are hamburgers and sandwiches that feature melty cheese on the inside.
I visited the recently opened Davis location and was immediately impressed with the interior decor of the restaurant. It’s fun, but not over the top. There are some picture worthy sports such as the big ‘Say Cheese’ lights and the Melt logo in the dining room. The overall dining area is very modern and trendy with an inviting atmosphere.
The easiest way to order at The Melt is to use the kiosks that they have when you enter. Instead of going to the counter, which I believe you can still do, you can simply use the touch screens to get what you’d like. It’s certainly not the traditional way to order food, but I see more and more restaurants going in this direction. I’m sure this will be the youths preferred method of ordering as it totally cuts out the need to interact with anyone.
Once the order it placed you can go to the counter to get your drink order and then wait for the food to come out to you. The wait time wasn’t terrible and the food came out nice and fresh.
Before this visit to the Melt I had previously had an order to go. With that order I was not impressed with the food. And that’s because with food from the Melt it’s a must to eat it right as it is served. The restaurant is called The Melt for a reason. The melty cheese is the star attraction here and if it solidifies in transit, the food will lose all its magic. So my highest recommendation for this restaurant is to dine-in and make sure to be ready to eat right when the food gets to you.
When eating food at the restaurant I found it to be very good. The melted cheese on the burger was great. I do, however, wish there was even more cheese on it. The cheese had a blend of special relish/pickle sauce that added a unique flavor to the burger that I really enjoyed. My friend ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and gave me a taste of it. The bread was nicely toasted and the cheese was melted well. Her grilled cheese had jalepnos in it and they added a very spicy kick. For those who may be sensitive to heat in a spicy sense you may want to avoid them as it can be more intense than you think.
The fries at the Melt are serviceable but not my favorite. The regular fries were fine but the garlic parmasean fries really hung around in my breath longer than I wanted so I probably would avoid those if you don’t like that senation.
Salads at the Melt are interesting as the crutons they use are little cubes cut from grilled cheese sandwiches! It’s pretty cute, but at a place like this I would go for the hot food unless you just want a little salad on the side.
The Melt is a worthy addition to the Sacramento food scene that brings another burger option to those of use who love them. It’s an enjoyable restaurant that has its own unique flair to set it apart from everyone else.
