Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire is a popular pizza restaurant in midtown Sacramento. It’s typically very crowded in the eventings with long wait times. The Sacramento location is currently one of four. They also have locations in Folsom, Roseville, and a further one out in Idaho.
Chicago Fire is known for their Chicago deep dish style pizzas. The pizzas are made from scratch and typically take a long time to bake, so if you want a quick meal you should probably go somewhere else. The pizza here is known for their very thick crust that goes above the surface level of the rest of the pizza.
As much as I wanted to love the pizza, I found that the pizzas lack a certain quality that would make me want to keep coming back for more of it. It’s not that the pizzas are bad quality or that the ingredients aren’t good… these pizzas should be amazing! But they are missing something. I believe that it’s missing a great pizza sauce. Overall the pizzas are a bit on the drier side. The sauce is minimal and there is a lot of crust, so it’s easy to get tired of it after just a slice or two.
I haven’t had them, but apparently the thin crust pizzas are quite good. I’ve always avoided these because this restaurant is all about the Chicago style - and that’s not thin crust!
On my most recent visit to Chicago Fire I specially went to give the wings a try. Many people have said their wings are next level so I had to see what the hype was all about.
You can order the wings in one, two, or three pound varieties.
Since I was there by myself I just went with one pound of wings in a medium buffalo style. I chose medium because according to my research the wings lack heat. I didn’t want to burn my tongue off, but I did want just a little kick. Well, next time I’ll have to go for a higher level because the medium heat level felt like nothing.
Thankfully, despite the lack of heat, the flavor of the buffalo sauce was amazing. The wings were tangy with plenty of zip. Unlike the pizza, the wings made me want to go back for more again and again. They gave me both bleu cheese and ranch sauce for the wings and honestly both were killer. I had a hard time deciding which one to dip my wing into!
You also got a few pieces of celery on the top as a garnish - which I appreciated. I feel like having celery (and/or carrots) is a must with buffalo wings.
The surprising thing about the wings were that they had a bit of a crunch to them. I wasn’t expecting that! I did some research and found out that you can get the wings with ‘no flour’ apparently. So that means that there must be some breading or flour element in their standard wings.
Chicago Fire really surprised me with there wings. I would certainly come for those alone.
I would also recommend trying this restaurant for lunch as they have many specials running a lunch which knock down their usual prices by quite a bit!
