Granite's Subs Wings and Things — Sacramento Food Review

I went to Granite’s Subs, Wings, and Things on a number of recommendations I received through social media. I was looking for good buffalo style wings in Sacramento and Granite’s came up again and again.

Granites is in Carmichael and has established themselves as a local favorite. As their name suggests, they serve up sub style sandwiches, chicken wings, and other items. In fact, the ‘other’ items on the menu are quite vast and varied. I was pretty surprised at all the different things on offer.

Besides the wings and subs you can get hamburgers, teriyaki rice plates, and even fish and chips. Though most of the menu features traditional American fast food style items, it was surprising to see the amount of Asian items on the menu. As I mentioned, they have teriyaki plates, but they also have potstickers and Asian wing flavors.

I found the wings here to be the more superior item when compared to the subs. The sub sandwiches can be hot or cold, but I found the one I got to be quite messy. I ordered a steak and cheese sub and the whole thing was kind of a jumbled mess. Was it bad tasting? Well… no, but there was just too much going on with the sub while still somehow being one note in its flavor profile.

The star attraction here are their wings. I’ve been pretty skeptical about buffalo style wings in Sacramento, but Granites versions is very good. The wings are nicely sized. I like them to be a little on the smaller size, and that’s what these are. They don’t look or feel like there has been a bunch of hormones injected into them. The cooking technique on these wings was perfect as well with the meat being a great vehicle for the sauce and skin.

The best thing, however, about the wings was the buffalo sauce. I haven’t had a good buffalo sauce in a while and the sauce here really hit the spot. It has complex notes of zing and savoriness that really awakens your taste buds. So many pizza restaurants and chain restaurants have buffalo sauce items that just don’t do it right. THIS is the right way to do it, and I encourage anyone who really enjoys buffalo sauce to give this one a try.

Of course, with this being a wing place, you’ll need plenty of napkins, so get those ready!

The restaurant itself has a diner look to it and it feels a bit dated on the inside. It’s a cute interior, but a refresh would do Granite’s a world of good.

I’m so happy to have checked out Granites! It’s one of the best buffalo wings I’ve had here in Sacramento. Let’s see if anyone else out there can do just as good or better!
