Mast Coffee
Mast Coffee is a highly regarded coffee provider in Sacramento. They have two locations and a stellar reputation for high quality coffee. This week I visited both locations and both had inviting vibes that make you want to stay and enjoy the coffee that you order. On both visits there were many patrons working with their laptops and enjoying the environment at Mast.
The first location I visited was the Broadway Cafe. This location can easily be missed as it is tucked away a little off the main street. This location is adorned with beautiful brick and has an inviting industrial feel. Ordering is very simple as the large counter welcomes you right when you walk in. The menu is easily seen right next to the register. You can order coffee or a selection of pastries that they have on hand. I tried the savory bear claw with bacon. It was excellent if you’re looking for something that is rich and filling. They also have kitchen items like avocado toast, chia pudding, and other prepared foods that will give you a good breakfast.
The Midtown location has a similar industrial vibe, but the space here is much more expansive. The cafe is much more open and the seating area is larger. About half of the space is used for the cafe portion of Mast while the other half is more of a coffee roasting warehouse of sorts. If you read about Mast on their website, you’ll learn that they take an enormous amount of pride as coffee wholesalers. They roast their own coffee in small batches, and I believe that this location is where much of that is done. The Midtown location has all the coffee and pastries that the Broadway one had, but I did not see the kitchen prepared food on the menu here.
The coffee is the star attraction at Mast. I found that at both locations, the coffee I had was made with care. I very much enjoyed the balance of flavors and the unique spin that they put on their specials. At the Broadway Cafe I tried their cinnamon latte. This drink had a depth of flavors that was surprising. It didn’t come too sweet, but had just the correct balance. On this same visit my wife gave the Tokyo Fog a try. The Tokyo Fog is a matcha drink with floral flavors. As someone who doesn’t want their matcha to be overloaded with sugar, she really enjoyed the Tokyo Fog. It wasn’t a sweet drink, but had a strong floral note that took the sweetness’ place. Both were impressive.
At the Midtown location I gave the peanut butter latte a try. This drink seemed to be off the deep end for me, but curiosity got the better of me. Thankfully, Mast crafted a wonderful drink that mixed their top notch coffee with a thick peanut buttery cold foam on the top. Again, this drink wasn’t overly sweet at all. It felt balanced and hit just the right notes.
Mast is a must visit for coffee lovers in Sacramento. With Sacramento having so many cafes and places to get coffee, Mast is one of the very top.
